Ed, proud father and one of the founders of the Porch
The Porch is a youth center located in the 7th Ward. We lead workshops with elementary and middle school youth in developing projects that will shed light on what they find special about New Orleans, and more specifically their neighborhood. In addition we focused our dialogue and projects on creating space for youth to express their ideas and desires for the future of their community.
"We are a cultural organization commited to the Seventh Ward area, in New Orleans. We seek to promote and sustain the cultures of the neighborhood, city, and region and to foster exchange between cultural groups. The Porch is a place where all can come to do and to share their culture, and to take care of each other and our communities."

THE MAP PROJECT
(Movement and Progress)
(Movement and Progress)
On Day one, students drew out a map of their lives, highlighting special moments and places. We also had the kids develop a glossary of terms they thought were specific to New Orleans culture and tradition. This content will be used in the making of the Hip Hop Teen + Prospect.1 Special Edition as a way to teach visitors to the Biennial about some the culturaly specific foods, sights, and slang of NewOleans'.
and our future.
